Geraldine
Toering
Jun 6, 1924 — Mar 30, 2022
Geraldine Elizabeth Toering was born in a farmhouse near Cloverdale, Minnesota on June 6, 1924 along with her twin brother, Gerald, to Thomas and Anna (DeRungs) Wolf. She peacefully passed away at Sandstone Healthcare Center, Sandstone, Minnesota on March 30, 2022.
Geraldine grew up and attended Cloverdale country school for eight years. She then went to Hinckley High School and graduated in 1942. After graduating from high school, she moved to town and lived at O'Malley's boarding house where her rent was $10.00 per month and she lived off of tomato soup since it was budget friendly. Gladys, her roommate, and her pooled their money and bought one of the first-ever cake mixes from a box! They couldn't believe it would actually make an editable cake. She worked at Gimpl's Fairway Grocery Store located in Hinckley while making $13.50 per week as a clerk. Geraldine's other jobs over the years included other clerking jobs in Hinckley, Fingerhut in Mora, and night clerk at Cassidy's motel until she was held up by gunpoint. Geraldine then decided to go to Cassidy's Restaurant as a cashier for 20 years until she retired in 1992.
On December 27, 1949 Geraldine married her high school sweetheart of 10 years, Clifton Toering in Mora, Minnesota. They were married over 61 years and resided west of Hinckley on the family farm. Geraldine took pride in her home and family. Her passions included cleaning, painting, washing clothes, yard work, starting brush fires, cooking (her famous Texas sheet cake), and helping on the farm. She also loved being part of her grand and great grandchildrens' lives. Geraldine enjoyed word games and searches, she was a spelling bee champion, softball pitcher and loved a good game of cribbage! All these things kept her mind sharp through her 97 plus years.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Clif, her parents, Thomas and Anna Wolf, her in-laws, Claus and Lillian (Irons) Toering, her nine siblings, Catherine, Joseph, Thomas, Mary Loretta, Frances, twins Harold and Harry, Gerald and Raymond.
She is survived by her children: Barbara (Richard) Toering, Allan (Carla) Toering, and Karen (Alex) Millner all of Hinckley, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, April 8, 2022 at First Presbyterian Church in Hinckley with Rev. Dan Brendsel officiating. Visitation will be from 10-11 A.M. at the church.
