Gary Lynn Zikan, born October 14, 1952, in Phillips, Wisconsin to Albert and Adele (Sadlo) Zikan, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 11, 2026. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and faithful servant of God, Gary lived a life marked by compassion, conviction, and unwavering dedication to his faith.

A true man of God, Gary devoted his life to ministry and to sharing the hope and love of Christ with everyone he met. His calling as a pastor was not just a role but a reflection of his heart—he loved his church deeply and found purpose in guiding others in their spiritual journeys. Gary pastored in North Minneapolis, Independence Iowa, Brashear Missouri, Brooklyn Park and Finlayson Minnesota. Prior to the ministry, one of Gary's favorite jobs was working as television engineer at WQAD TV in Moline, IL where he not only loved the technical side, he loved to voice over commercials.

Gary had a lifelong passion for education and learning. He pursued his studies with deep commitment, earning an Associate's Degree in Electrical Technology from MATC Wisconsin, attending the Career Academy of Broadcasting, completing a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Trinity College, and later receiving his Master of Divinity from Bethel Seminary. His dedication to learning enriched both his ministry and his personal life, shaping the wisdom and insight he shared with others.

Outside the pulpit, Gary embraced life with enthusiasm. He was an avid sports fan, especially loyal to his beloved Green Bay Packers. He found joy in creating his own variations of playing Solitaire as well as freedom in bicycling, spending countless hours on the road and trails doing what he loved. Gary also treasured traveling with his wife, Gail; together they explored new places, created lasting memories, and shared adventures that strengthened their bond and filled their lives with joy.

Gary is survived by his beloved wife, Gail Zikan; his son, Joseph (Nicole) Zikan; his grandson, Aiden; and his cherished granddaughters, Emma and Gracelyn Zikan. He is also survived by his sister Dianne (Ed) Peters, along with many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Adele Zikan; his brother, Richard Zikan; his sister, Virginia Zikan; his brother‑ and sister‑in‑law, Wayne and Kay Pelto‑Lund; brother-in-law Ed Tahedl; and his brother‑ and sister‑in‑law, Robert and Cheryl Kipp.

Gary's legacy is one of faith, kindness, and steadfast love for his family and community. His presence will be deeply missed, but his influence will continue to live on in the many lives he touched.

A funeral service will be held to honor Gary at 2pm on Monday, March 16, 2026 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Finlayson, MN. Visitation will be held one hour before the service at the church. Burial will take place at the Finnish Lutheran Cemetery following the service.
