Floyd Schaefbauer, of Mora, passed away on June 7, 2026.  He was 91 years old.

Floyd James Schaefbauer was born on July 25, 1934, the first of five children welcomed by Simon and Emma Schaefbauer.  From his earliest days, family was the center of Floyd's world. Growing up surrounded by siblings and cousins, he formed deep, unbreakable bonds built on laughter, shared work, and the everyday joys of life.

As a young man, Floyd was always on the move—playing football with friends, hunting, fishing, or venturing just across the North Dakota border for dance outings. During one of these dance outing adventures is where he first saw the woman who would become the love of his life. Spotting Viola across the dance floor, Floyd knew that she would one day be his bride and he was right.

Floyd and Viola were married on October 13, 1953, in Hague, North Dakota, then moved to Mobridge, South Dakota and began a devoted partnership that would span an incredible 72 years. Together, they raised their six children—Ralph, Gail, David, Brenda, Renae, and James—building a life rooted in love, faith, and steadfast commitment.

In 1972, Floyd moved his growing family to a 10 acre farm outside Mora. He took on many jobs to support them, eventually building a long and successful career in sales. But Floyd's work was never just about business. His clients came to him for insurance, yes, but also for the warmth, humor, and genuine connection he offered. Known for his stories and his daily "joke of the day," Floyd brought joy in simple, meaningful ways. Many clients would say, "We are good with insurance, at this time but you can stop by and tell us a joke," a true reflection of the lighthearted spirit he carried everywhere he went.

Floyd found great peace in the outdoors. Hunting and fishing trips with his brothers, in-laws, children, and grandchildren were some of his most treasured moments

These were times to teach, to laugh, and to create memories that would carry on for generations. He also loved playing cards with his siblings and cousins, where friendly rivalry and plenty of laughter filled the room. His hands were rarely idle as he enjoyed woodworking.  He would craft birdhouses, giving them as gifts and donating to the local Catholic Church auction, quietly supporting his community.

In retirement, Floyd and Viola spent cherished winters at Friendly Acres in Yuma, where they played games, shared stories, and formed lasting friendships. Even after they stopped traveling to Arizona, those friendships endured. The day after Floyd's passing, a voicemail from his friend Chuck arrived: "Mr. Floyd, this is Mr. Chuck. The ribs are gonna be put on at 3 o'clock. Let me know what time you're gonna show up." A simple message, yet a beautiful testament to Floyd's lasting presence in the hearts of those he met.

Returning home, Floyd devoted himself to caring for Viola as she faced Alzheimer's. He attended caregiving meetings, learned how to cook again, and even changed his wardrobe to make everyday tasks easier—switching to cargo pants with big pockets so he could keep everything Viola needed close at hand. His patience, adaptability, and unwavering love were constant, showing the depth of his devotion even in the hardest moments.

Floyd's legacy is profound. He was blessed with six children; One Daughter in-law, twelve grandchildren—Nicholas, (Kris) Adam, Miranda, Derek, (Veronica) Rachael, Nicole, Shanna, (Justyn) Sheila, (Mike) Mitchell, (Kolby) Jeremiah, (Jamie) Keegan, Kyle, (Susi). and twenty great grand-children—Kaitlan, Samantha, Alexia, Dustin, Brooklyn, Kennedy, Sidney, Alyssia, Preston, Hunter, Hannah, Abigail, Kiah, Brexton, Austyn, Landon, Madelyn, Owen, Ivy, and Olivia; and five great great grandchildren—Mason, Lillyana, Castiel, Gianna, and Vivien.

Through his humor, his generosity, his hard work, and his boundless love for family, Floyd created a life rich in meaning and memory. He leaves behind a legacy of warmth, resilience, and connection—a legacy carried forward in every story told, every joke remembered, every birdhouse still hanging from a tree.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place on July 11, 2026 at St Mary's Catholic Church, Mora MN with a visitation at 9:30 at the church and services at 10:30, his final resting place will be St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Mora.
