Ellzy Eugene
Moore
Dec 9, 1931 — Jul 4, 2022
Mora
Ellzy Eugene Moore, 90, loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and respected friend to many, peacefully passed away on July 4 th , 2022. He loved the 4 th celebration fireworks, and each year will now be a symbolic remembrance of him.
Ellzy was born in New Philadelphia, Illinois, in 1931, and then his family moved to Mora when he was 3. He lived in Mora until he joined the United States Air Force in 1951. After a 26-year career in the Air Force, he returned to Mora with his wife Twilla, where they lived the remainder of their lives. On his Mora farm he raised black angus, while also working for the Amoco Plastics Factory and EPC as a press operator, where he retired. He served as Ford Township Treasurer for years and was a member of the Emanuel Baptist Church, the Snake River Cattlemen's Association, The Disabled American Veterans, and the American Legion. He loved fishing and traveling, seeing Alaska twice, driving the ALCAN Highway, Europe via a river cruise, and Canada fishing trips with his sister, Sylvia.
As a Communications Specialist in the Air Force, his specialty took him to South Korea during the Korean Conflict. Afterward he served in Hawaii twice, Greenland, Thailand, and Philippines, as well as six stateside bases, including Bartlesville, Oklahoma, where he met his love, Twilla. He was a proud and patriotic veteran and loved sharing his stories. He earned 12 medals, including the Bronze Star.
Ellzy married Twilla Overacre on July 31, 1953. They had two daughters, Debra and Cyndie, and they opened their home and hearts to foster 21 foster children. Ellzy proudly boasted that Twilla was a wonderful "military" wife, enduring several spans of separation while maintaining a strong family.
He will be remembered for his kindness, humor, and storytelling, and surely will bring smiles to hearts of those who knew him. His family will always adore him as their loving, caring, and supportive father and grandfather, great-grandfather, and the wonderful husband he was for Twilla.
He is survived by his daughters, Debra Bracken (Jeff), Cynthia O'Keefe (Dan), grandchildren Sean, Sabrina, Shane, Sydney, and Sam, as well as 8 great-grandchildren, and his dear friend, Joan McClay.
He was preceded in death, and now joined, by his wife Twilla, and sisters Sylvia, Alberta, and Ruth, and his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, July 15, 2022 at Dresser-Methven Funeral Home in Mora with Rev. Kate Mensing officiating.
