Edward (Ed)
Olaf Berglund
Nov 30, 1937 — Jun 2, 2022
Silver Bay
Edward "Ed" Olaf Berglund, age 84, passed away on June 2, 2022 at the Silver Bay Veterans Home in Silver Bay, MN.
Edward was born on November 30, 1937 to Adrian and Elizabeth (Pearson) Berglund in Bruno, MN. He grew up in the Bruno area with his parents, two brothers, and sister, graduating from Askov High School in 1955. Ed decided in 1960 to join the United States Army and served his country until his honorable discharge in 1963. He then attended college at the University of Minnesota to study agriculture and farming. On August 22, 1964 Ed married Bonnie Matthes in Kerrick, MN. Together Ed and Bonnie raised their children in the same rural area they grew up in. Ed provided for his family throughout his life by farming and driving truck for Halvor Lines for many years. Community involvement, serving God and the church were big factors in Ed's life. He was a member of the Kerrick Community Church board, a board member of Grindstone Bible Camp, and a member of the Kerrick City Council for many years. Ed had a few hobbies that kept him busy and that he enjoyed throughout his life, which included trains, puzzles, water skiing, farming, and bingo.
Ed is preceded in death by his parents, Adrian and Elizabeth; his brothers, Allen Berglund and Stanley Berglund.
Ed is survived by his loving wife of almost 58 years, Bonnie of Moose Lake, MN; son, Eugene of Blaine, MN; daughters, Karen Bostrom of Grand Forks, ND, Michele (Rick) Warpula of Atkinson, MN; grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Hannah Warpula and Emma Bostrom; sister, Carol (Bud) Headman of Bruno, MN; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews; special friends, Jim and George.
The family has asked that instead of flowers and plants that people donate to Grindstone Lake Bible Camp in memory of Ed, plant a tree, and remember Ed when they enjoy any sweets (especially fudge, that was his favorite).
A memorial service is planned for Ed at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at Danforth Community Chapel officiated by Pastor Peter Dobson. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial with military honors will take place after lunch at Riverside Cemetery in Kerrick, MN.
