Obituary

Edward Arthur Balfanz was born on June 30, 1931, to Arthur and Florence Balfanz.  He passed away peacefully at his home on October 21, 2025, at age 94.

He passed away during fall his favorite time of the year. Deer season was important to him and he was a long-time member of the NRA.  Edward grew up in various Minnesota locations and helped on the family farm.

Edward was a veteran of the United States Air Force which he joined after high school.  Upon honorable discharge from the Air Force, he went on to have various jobs from farming to property and land management, among many others.  He also owned a Christmas tree farm.  Edward his brother William, brother-in-law Roger, each had their own tree farms.  The family and countless others were supplied with beautiful Christmas trees by the brothers for many years.

Edward settled in Hinckley MN in his retirement and lived out his remaining years there.  Edward was a quiet, private, and generous man.  Edward was passionate about nature, farming, animals, and cards.  Most important to him was his family.

A favorite past-time was hunting and fishing at the family cabin he helped build.  He had a talent for numbers, especially anything involving card games.  He loved passing on this knowledge to his nieces and nephews.  He had weekly card games, often occurring at Grindstone Lake with family.  He also enjoyed spending quality time at the lake taking many a pontoon ride with family.

Edward was especially close to his parents whom he lived with and took care of in their later years.  Edward was proceeded in death by his parents Arthur and Florence Balfanz. Siblings Marilyn Griffith (Meland), William Balfanz, Lois Balfanz, Mae DeNucci (Louie), and brother-in-law Roger Trapp.

Edward is survived by his sister Ruby Trapp and sister-in-law, Patricia Balfanz, as well as many nieces and nephews. Edward's quiet, wise, generous, and honest ways will be missed by many.  His love of nature and the outdoors is shared by many family members and friends who will carry on and pass down his legacy, as well as the love and knowledge of nature and the great outdoors.

Services to be held on November 18, 2025, at noon, at Elim Lutheran Church in Scandia Minnesota, with a visitation one hour prior to the service.  A burial with Military Honors to follow at Elim Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers the family asked that donations be made to the family.  A portion of donations will be used in Edwards's name to provide a wreath or Christmas Tree to a family in need for Christmas.
