Dwight
Sonnenberg
Sep 21, 1957 — Mar 27, 2026
Isle
Dwight David Sonnenberg, age 68, passed away on March 27, 2026. He was born on September 21, 1957, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Throughout his life, Dwight resided in several communities within the state.
Dwight attended high school in Columbia Heights, Minnesota, then obtained his Commercial Driver's License (CDL) where he achieved the notable accomplishment of over one million safe driving miles. He later went to law enforcement school and obtained his POST certification. His professional career was diverse, including roles as a maintenance engineer in senior living communities and work in various areas of construction.
A devoted outdoorsman, Dwight was a member of multiple sportsman's clubs and served as a firearms safety instructor. He was also actively involved in the Boy Scouts, where he took great pride in his troop's achievement of earning first place at the State Jamboree. He found joy in hunting, fishing, and traveling the countryside, often accompanied by his loyal Labrador retrievers.
Dwight was known for his engaging personality and enjoyed sitting at the kitchen table telling stories for hours. Occasionally, if you brought up a sensitive topic, he would be known to go off about it, which is now referred to as "D-rail".
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Andrew and Helen Chuchwar, and Charles and Leila Sonnenberg.
Dwight is survived by his lifelong partner, Cheryl TenBruin of Isle, Minnesota; his mother, Beverly Moll of Balsam Lake, Wisconsin; his brother, Darryl (Barb) Sonnenberg of Centerville, Minnesota; his children, Melissa Singleton of Texas, Andrew (Jill) Sonnenberg of Elbow Lake, Minnesota, and Bobby (Lisa) Sonnenberg of Plato, Minnesota; and his stepchildren, Mark (Julie) TenBruin of Temecula, California, and Collin (Samantha) TenBruin of Isle, Minnesota. He is further survived by seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and many dear friends.
Dwight's legacy will endure through the lives he touched, the knowledge he shared, and the memories cherished by all who knew him. He will be deeply missed, but welcomed by all his labs that have gone before him.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 4, 2026 at Methven Funeral Home, Mille Lacs Chapel in Isle with Rev. Josh Blair officiating. Visitation will be from 1 until 2 P.M. Honorary Casketbearers are Claude Roff, Jay Cheese, Gary Nygaard, Darryl Sonnenberg, Andy Sonnenberg, Bobby Sonnenberg, Raylan Sonnenberg, Brant Sonnenberg, Mark TenBruin and Collin TenBruin.
