Dwane James Franklin died on Monday, October 17, 2022 at his home in Mora. He was 90 years old.
Dwane was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on June 17, 1932 to Henry and Cecelia (La Roche) Franklin. He grew up in St. Paul and after military service he resided in Lake Elmo and Merrifield before settling in Mora.
In his youth, Dwane was an altar boy at the St. Paul Cathedral while going to the Cathedral School. During that time, he shined shoes and sold papers on the corners of St. Paul in the area near the Cathedral during the lean 1930's. He joined the US Navy in December of 1950 and served until October of 1954. He spent two years in the Philippines and was aboard the USS Lenawee APA-195. After his years of service Dwane drove truck for over 20 years, then became a woodworker, craftsman, and an expert flea marketer.
He married Carolyn (Holmstrom) on September 11, 1982 in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Dwane was a member of the local Teamsters for over 20 years and a lifetime member of the VFW.
He loved fishing and traveling and always looked forward to wintering down south. Dwane loved teasing everyone and had a great sense of humor until the very end.
He is preceded in death by his parents Henry and Cecelia, brothers; Henry (Mary), Larry (Helen) and sisters; MaryJane, Delores, Patricia, and Elaine, and his son Daniel John.
Dwane is survived by his wife, Carolyn, sons, Dave (Brenda) and Bob (Tina), and daughters, Leonne and Cathy (Tom) Armstrong, grandchildren; Daniel, Terry, Jesse, Adam, Jeremy, Tiara, Madelyn, Drew, and Amber, and 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 29, 2022, at Dresser-Methven Funeral Home in Mora with Fr. Derek Wiechmann and Rev. Kate Mensing officiating. Visitation will be from 10-11 A.M. Military honors are being provided by the Mora American Legion Post 201. Burial will be at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery at a later date.
