Doris Margaret Volk, age 88,  of Sandstone, MN passed away peacefully on Easter, Sunday, March 31, 2024 at her home with her family by her side.

Doris was born on May 28th, 1935, to Edward and Susan (Doncaster) Eiffler in Dell Grove Township in Sandstone, MN where she was baptized in May of 1951 at the age of 16. She was later confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hinckley, MN. Doris attended country school in Dell Grove Township for 8 years. Her 9-12th grade years were completed at the Hinckley High School, graduating in 1953. Doris immediately moved to St. Paul seeking employment after high school with her best friend, Lorraine Kroschel. They both found employment as typists at the Brandtjen and Kluge Co. and then later went to Remington Rand. Living and working in St. Paul for those two years was a great way to start off their adult life.

Doris met the love of her life, Harvey at Happy's Dance Hall and was married shortly thereafter on July 23rd, 1955. Harvey and Doris relocated to New Mexico for a short period of time for Harvey's employment. While residing there, they had their first and only son, Ricki. When Ricki was 3 weeks old, they moved back to Minnesota to be closer to their families and lived in a variety of places in the Sandstone/Hinckley area before purchasing a homestead on Grindstone Lake Road. Doris continued to reside at the farm even after the passing of Harvey 2.5 years ago. This was their home for 64 years. Doris was a hard worker. She managed the family farm while raising two children while Harvey was away most of the week driving truck over the road. Doris loved to travel with Harvey. They had many, many Las Vegas trips, family fishing trips over Memorial Day weekend for 20 consecutive years in a variety of lakes up north. In 1984, Doris and Harvey went on their first international, European vacation to Germany to visit their godson. They found relatives from the Eiffler family, and they enjoyed them immensely.

Family was Doris's passion. She enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She attended nearly every sporting event possible from her children to her great grandchildren to cheer them on and critique the coaching and the refereeing. She never went unheard at any game. This was a huge part of her life for over three decades.

Religion was very important to Doris. Once she and Harvey were married, she knew and recognized that it was necessary to have God in her life and she could not be fulfilled without Jesus Christ our savior. She knew it was her job to teach her children, grand children, and great grandchildren to know God and the importance it would have in their lives. Once joining the parish of Emmanuel-Grace Lutheran Church in 1970, Doris started a lifetime of service to her God and Church. She was a Sunday school teacher at Emmanuel Lutheran in Dell Grove for 25 years and taught Bible School for many, many years. She often stated that she learned so much by teaching Sunday school and felt that this ranked highest in her life accomplishments. Her heart was full when she was able to teach her own grand children in Sunday school and vacation bible school. One of her last requests was that her family continues to know and value God throughout their lives.

Doris had many hobbies and interests. She loved growing a big garden, canning the vegetables, and harvesting all the apples from their own trees. She was always giving and sharing with family, neighbors and community. She was nominated "volunteer of the year" in 2002, receiving an award and being honored during the annual Quarry Days Parade. This was an honor that was always dear to her heart.

As a farm woman she always liked making hay, threshing and shocking oats, chopping corn, cleaning barns, gardening, but NOT milking cows. She was the most honest person in every aspect of her life but was especially about that.

Both of her children were married in the 1980's. During the next five years, Doris became a grandmother to four grandchildren. Doris cared for all her grandchildren prior to them starting grade school. Somedays, all four at one time. It was during these times, her heart overflowed with love. Even during the times, they drown all her cucumber plants or nearly burnt down the barn.

Doris always said, "my house is not a mansion, it's a comfortable family home, where all our welcome and I am the happiest and most peaceful." Grandma Doris was a "bonus" grandma to so many. She will be greatly missed but never forgotten.

Doris is preceded in death by her husband Harvey Volk; parents, Edward and Susan Eiffler; brothers, Harold, Louie, Bob, Dale, Edward, Dennis and sisters Delores and Luella.

Doris is survived by her son, Ricki (Patty) Volk; daughter Sandra Korf; sister Pat Eiffler; Her sister in laws Delores (Gary) Harman, Joyce Volk and Jean Volk. Her grandchildren, Ryan (Brianna), Ashley (Ian), Megan (Brian), Shane (Miranda); great-grandchildren, Noah Alan, Brycen, Aubree, Maddison, Isaac, Carmen, Noah James, Caden, Grady, Maya, Ava and Madilyn.

A funeral service will be held for Doris at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 5, 2024, at Grace Lutheran Church in Sandstone, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Following the service the family has invited those attending to lunch at the Sandstone Community Center (north door) located at 130 Oriole St, Sandstone, MN.
