Obituary

Doris Evelyn Johnson, of Brook Park, Minnesota, died on June 16, 2023 in Onamia, Minnesota.  She was 84 years old.

In loving memory of Doris Evelyn Waddel-Johnson

Her sunrise began on the 6th of June 1939 and sunset came on the 16th of June 2023.

It is written that life begins as an open book of many blank pages. As we live each day our deeds are recorded page by page.

Doris' book was started the 6th of June, 1939 in Brunswick Township, Kanabec County Minnesota.  She was born at home on the farm to Carl James and Bertha Louise (Rightman) Waddel.  She was the youngest of 7 Children; Dan 1927-1997, Marvel 1928-1991, Richard Darrel 1931-1984, Avis Jean 1933-1978, Lois May 1935-1935, and Lois Ione 1938-.

1939-2023 are important dates and just to know the meaning might cause a few tears, but what matters most of all is the dash in between those years. For that dash represents all the time she spent alive on earth….

She worked in a sewing factory from 1956 till 1958. She learned many sewing techniques that throughout her life became useful. From 1958-1973 she worked for Honeywell making switches for the war efforts. She joined her grandma Amy (Carsley) Rightman and her mom, Bertha in the Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War in 1957 at the age of 18. She was elected Department President 1991-1992 and again 2000-2001.  She was also Past President of MN Tent #1.  She remained a very active member until her death.

Doris had started dating Robert Martin Johnson in 1963.  Christian Jay was born  29 September 1965, and Jayjohn Robert was born 26 July 1971.  They lived together on Doris' farm in Bethel until 1975, when they bought the farm in Brook park, MN.  Doris and Bob married 22 Dec 1972, but divorced in May 1985. They both stayed in Brook Park… Doris and the boys at the farm and Bob in town.  Doris worked the dairy farm for 10 years. Chris had moved to Minneapolis, MN to work as a mechanic.  Jayjohn stayed with Doris on the farm, but they no longer farmed it after 1984.  She started working for Fingerhut Corporation in 1983, they sold the company to Opeck in 2001. She retired from there in 2004.

Doris is survived by her sons Christian and Jayjohn and by her 2 grand-daughters; Brandy Jo Waddel-Johnson and Clarissa Marie Waddel-Johnson.
