In Loving Memory of Donald Petersen

Born on September 26, 1934, in Askov, Minnesota, Donald Petersen passed away on November 3, 2023, at the age of 89 at Essentia Health-Sandstone only after being in his new residence at Serenity Court, Sandstone, MN for a short time. Donald, often called Don by his loved ones, was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Donald was a true Midwesterner, having grown up in Askov before briefly residing in Bremerton, Washington. However, he found his way back home, where he settled after marrying his beloved wife, Lorraine, on November 18, 1956. They shared 65 beautiful years together until Lorraine's passing, preceding Donald in death.

As a young man, Donald attended Bremerton High School before pursuing his passion for mechanics at a renowned school in Chicago. This knowledge and skill led him to diverse career paths, including auto mechanic, service manager, car sales, and even fuel delivery. Many in the community remember him fondly as the Tootsie Pop man, who always had treats for the children on his fuel delivery routes.

Throughout his life, Don had a deep appreciation for nature and outdoor activities. He loved hunting, fishing, and spending time on the water, whether it was the vast Lake Superior or one of the picturesque local lakes. His love for nature was surpassed only by his love for his friends and family. Donald cherished every moment spent with them, creating lasting memories filled with laughter and joy.

One of Donald's favorite expressions was "Every Day's a Good Day," a motto he truly lived by. His positivity and optimistic outlook on life were contagious to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Even during difficult times, Donald's bright spirit and kind heart were unwavering.

Don is preceded in death by his loving wife, Lorraine, his parents James and Alice Petersen, son, David Petersen, and son-in-law, Robert Wright.

Donald will forever be remembered as a devoted father to his daughter, Lisa Wright of Savage, MN, and son, Michael Petersen of Sandstone, MN. His loving legacy also extends to his grandchildren, Cody Petersen, Sarah (Caleb) Anderson, and Rachel Wright, as well as his great-granddaughter, Elliana Anderson.

Donald will be dearly missed by his family and friends, but his memory and the impact he had on their lives will remain eternally cherished. May we find solace in celebrating his life through stories, laughter, and shared moments.

As we gather to honor Donald, we invite you to join us for Don's memorial service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Askov, MN with Clara Edin, S.A.M. officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at the Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery.
