David Francis Weulander, age 74, passed away unexpectedly on July 2, 2022, at his home in Askov, MN.

David was born on July 2, 1948, in Biwabik, MN to Arvo and Signe (Laine) Weulander. He grew up in the Palo area and graduated from Aurora Hoyt Lakes High School in 1966. David always enjoyed learning new things. He moved to Duluth, MN when he started his college career at the University of Minnesota-Duluth and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in teaching in 1970. A year later David earned his master's degree. Not only did David love to learn new things, he loved to teach other people too. He was a schoolteacher who excelled at showing children there was a whole new world out there through music. During his teaching years David also was the band director, choir director, and a MSHL music judge. In 1998 David earned his Doctorate of Philosophy degree. David was always on the move and was a member of the Army National Guard for 20 years and played in the national guard band during his service time. David had a wide variety of hobbies that kept him quite busy throughout his life, these hobbies included sports, being a football referee, participating in an orchestra, enjoying different styles of music, and being a member of the honor guard and American Legion.

David is preceded in death by his parents, Signe and Arvo; his older brothers, Darrell and Dale.

David is survived by his wife, Rosa, his sons, Sam and Brian; his grandchildren, Sidney, Adayla, Paris, Vaughn, Javin, and Brinlee.

A memorial service will be held for David at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Sandstone, MN, with Father Joseph Sirba officiating. There will be visitation on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, from 5pm to 7pm at the Methven Funeral Home in Sandstone along with visitation one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church. Burial will take place at a later date.
