Daryl Wallskog of Ogilvie died Saturday, May 21, 2022, while in compassionate care at North Memorial Hospital. He was 71 years old.

He was born to Wendell "Wimpy" and Eleanor "Toots" Wallskog of Ogilvie. He spent much of his life right down the road from his parents' place and close to his siblings. He married Karen (Olson) Haeg in 1977, embracing his transition from bachelorhood to stepfather of five. His daughter was born in 1981 completing the blended family.

As a farmer, he was often found in either the barn or in the field. Over the years, he spent time at "Wimp's Place," helping with the family butchering and meat processing business and enjoying the hours of banter with his father Wimpy and his sisters. He drove school bus for the Ogilvie School District, which allowed him the opportunity to never miss his daughter's sporting events. He was always the devoted fan cheering on the team from the stands. He also hauled blacktop for over 20 years in the metro, until his body would no longer allow it.

He was skilled with a skid steer and at welding. His spiritual time was tooling around on a 4-wheeler checking the cows. Trapping, deer hunting, turkey hunting and bear baiting all brought him joy. Especially, as it allowed him time with his granddaughter, Lisa, and her husband, Dan, whether being in the woods, along a creek bed or just visiting in the truck.

You could find him drinking coffee and shaking dice at The Double J Cafe, driving around looking for deer, or telling stories about his young grandson, Jack. He will be remembered fondly by his family for his love of Reba's Greatest Hits, as an avid reader of Louis L'amour western novels, watching the Twins with the volume cranked and for his adoration of the Rocky Mountains.

While his health deteriorated, it never dampened his spirit to get back into the tractor or that Wallskog orneriness.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Wendell and Eleanor (Motschenbacher) Wallskog; brother, Butch Wallskog; sister, Judy Stark; stepdaughter, Karrie Haeg; stepson, Steve Haeg; son-in-law, Dave Richert.

He is survived by his wife, Karen Wallskog; daughter Jen (Jeff) Telander; stepchildren, Curt (Sandy) Haeg; Cindy (Dave) Knollmaier; Sue Hughley; sisters Janice Kleven, Deb Heirigs, Geri Simonson, and Cindy (Robyn) Persson; brother Dewey Wallskog; and beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and family.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 2, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at Dresser-Methven Funeral Home in Mora.
