Daniel Mark
Peterson
Mar 21, 1933 — Jan 2, 2022
Cambridge
Daniel Mark Peterson, 88, of Giese (Cambridge), passed away on Sunday, January 2, 2022 at Hennepin County Medical Center. He was born in Aitkin County, MN on March 21,1933 to Eldo and Elsie (Palmer) Peterson.
Dan graduated from McGrath High School, joined the Army and served in the Army Band and then went on to college at the University of MN, and earned his bachelor's degree in Agricultural Business. The U of M St. Paul campus is also where he met Evelyn Burzlaff and they were married on his birthday in Dodge Center on March 21, 1959 (62 years).
Although Dan has held many occupations, he lived over half his life in Giese. His career started early as a storekeeper at age 5, at his parents' General Store. He could make change and write out sales slips. In 1959, Dan and Evelyn returned to Giese, and he worked hauling milk. A couple of years later, Dan began a new chapter as a Libby's Agricultural Field Supervisor in Rochester. In 1964, the Peterson family moved to Dodge County to partner with the Burzlaff family in farming. A sales opportunity arose in 1975 with RBA Seed which Dan accepted and moved the family to Olivia. In subsequent years in Olivia, he worked for Farm Bureau Seed and independently as Dan Peterson Sales. Later he would return to retail, establishing the first Peterson's New and Used store. After several years in Olivia working and raising a family, Dan and Evelyn "retired" and moved the New & Used store to Giese. There they started another venture, Giese Bed & Breakfast Inn. After successfully running this combination business for more than 27 years and engaging with guests and customers from 6 of 7 continents, Dan and Evelyn retired to Cambridge, in November 2018.
Dan was loved for his strong faith, work ethic, wit, stories and sense of humor especially enjoying Sven & Ole (Lena) jokes.
He is preceded in death by: parents, daughter-in-law Deb Tobias, brother Gerald Peterson, sister-in-law Gloria Peterson and brother-in-law Wilbert Norback.
Dan is survived by his wife Evelyn, Children: Pam (Tim) Eng, Mark Peterson, Jonna (Terry) Marholz, Susan Battles, Linda (Jim) Hannasch, Steve (Dani) Peterson; Grandchildren, Ben Eng, Brittany (Peter) McDonald, Jillian Marholz, Sarah Battles, Rachel Battles (Matt), Luca Battles, Seth Hannasch, August Hannasch (Brianna), Maxwell Peterson and Cole Peterson.
