Daniel
Mack
Jul 27, 1951 — Dec 26, 2025
Mora
Dan Mack passed away on December 26th, 2025 after a 14-month battle with cancer, at the age of 74. Born on July 27th, 1951, to Ben and Loraine (Lyman) Mack in San Diego, California. The family moved to El Paso, Arkansas in 1959 on a dairy farm. When not helping with chores, Dan spent time fishing and swimming in the pond or going for rides on the yearling cows, where he was frequently bucked off landing in a patch of tumbleweeds. The family moved to Chula Vista, California in 1961. He attended Chula Vista High School and earned his GED after attending night classes before his normal class graduation in 1969. By the time Dan reached High School he had developed an adventurous and rebellious nature. He was a star on the swimming team and performed as a clown diver at the Chula Vista Aquatic Center's Annual Water Show. He developed a love of body surfing and could be frequently seen surfing at Imperial Beach doing spirals down the face of the waves!
Dan ended up as a cliff diver in Mexico, earning enough money to keep him happy for a while until he moved back to Chula Vista and more adventures. Dan was known to have jumped from the top of Otay Lake dam on a couple of occasions. He worked for a tree trimming service and drove truck for a moving company for a few years in California before moving to Mora, MN in 1978. He worked as a cook at the former Tobies Restaurant in Mora. January of 1979, he started work at Amoco (EPC) where he met the love of his life Peggy Mueller. They were married on October 3rd, 1987, at Hilltop Campgrounds in Ogilvie, MN. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Larry Mack, his in laws Philip and Elener Mueller and sister-in-law Mary Kehn.
Dan is survived by his wife Peggy; his sons Cory Smith and KC Sybrant; four grandchildren Monica, Lily, Jackson and Haylee (Frankie); great granddaughter Mavis; brother Dave Mack (Lina); sisters and brothers-in-law, Rosanna Harris, Phyllis Roseberry, Debra (Barry) Hoffman, Philip (Mary Lou) Mueller, and Donna (Paul) Wagenius; many other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
