Bette Jarvis of Hinckley, MN passed away at Sandstone Health Care Center on Monday, March 27, 2023, with her family by her side. She was 78 years old.
Bette was born in Braham, MN on October 18th, 1944, to Robert and Agnes (Pulkrabek) Berg. She lived with her family in Henriette for 5 years, then moved to Cook, MN for one year, and then moved to Hinckley in 1950. Bette graduated from HInckley High School in 1962. After graduation, Bette moved to the Cities and worked at Pillsbury for 4 years.
She married Joseph Jarvis on May 22, 1965, at St. Albert The Great Catholic Church in Minneapolis. Both worked in the Twin Cities area until they moved their family back to Hinckley in 1968, where they planted their roots and stayed. In her early family life, Bette spent most summers at the baseball field, and later she spent as much time as possible in the motorhome, camping and traveling with family and friends.
Bette was a stay-at-home mother and homemaker until their youngest child entered Kindergarten. Bette then began working as a cook in the Hinckley Elementary School kitchen, where she worked for 28 years. She was even able to serve school lunches to some of her grandchildren. Bette was active in the Hinckley Legion Auxiliary, local Garden Club, and was an active Circle member at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. She also volunteered at the Hinckley Fire Museum and Senior Center.
Bette was known far and wide for her baking abilities, especially her famous cranberry and chocolate chip cookies. She also made the best hotdish at every family reunion, and cooked most of every meal for every holiday, as long as she was able. Bette was an avid sewer. She sewed clothes for her children in the early years, she did alterations for many people, and she made several quilts, including a quilt for each grandchild upon their high school graduation. She was her happiest when her entire family was together. Her Catholic faith, along with her husband, children, and grandchildren were the most important things in her life.
Bette is survived by her husband, Joe, of almost 58 years, children Teresa (John) Tekavec, Joe Jarvis, Bethany Jarvis, and Laurie Jarvis; grandchildren Chad Jarvis, Robert Tekavec, Luke Jarvis, Dana Tekavec, Jenna Tekavec, Drew Gustafson, Chase Gustafson, Ty Gustafson, and Cole Jarvis.
