Bernard (Bernie) Herman Sunderman, 95 passed away peacefully on June 27th, 2025, at the VA Hospital in St. Cloud, Minnesota.
He was born on August 29, 1929, in Melrose, MN to Anthony and Anne (Volbert) Sunderman. He attended high School in Melrose, Mn. and was in the Army from 1949-1952 serving in Korea. He was a Sergeant in the 9th Artillery, Ivy Division, where he trained with 90mm guns.
On April 21,1956 he was united in marriage to Margaret Mary Mondloch at St. Cloud Cathedral Catholic church and were blessed with seven children. He worked in banking until he retired. Bernie was very active in the Waite Park Legion and was awarded 70 + years of active membership. He served as the Commander from 1963-1964. He was also an active member of the Lions Club and volunteered for the Hospice program, visiting with sick people. He was a faithful servant of the Lord and volunteered as an usher at St. Joseph Catholic church in Waite Park, and St. Mary Catholic church in Mora, MN. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed playing cards, watching sports, and of course Gunsmoke. He will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family and loyalty. He was loved by many and was always the funniest man in the room, telling stories to all.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Margaret, daughters Mary Kay Sunderman and Joyce Stenstrom, parents Tony and Anne, siblings Hubert (Delores), Delores (Jerry) Bromen, Roman (Aurelia), Harold (Mary), Victor (Dorine), and two son-in- law's, Roy Habeck and Jerry Stenstrom.
Bernie is survived by his children Diane (Kevin) Seefeld of McGregor, MN., William (Bill) (Lori) of McGregor, MN., Julie Habeck of Isle, MN., Lisa (Steve) Schneider of Litchfield, MN., and Jeni Sunderman of Isle, MN. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren Lynn Orazem and Trisha Seefeld; Matthew, Corey Sunderman and Kaitlyn Pemberton; Andy, Tony, and Jake Schneider; Tatianna, Kelsey, Aaron, Raena, and Laura Habeck; Isabela, Jazmine Cemenski and Margaret Sunderman, 20 Great grandchildren and his brother-in-law Oliver Mondloch.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at 11:00AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wahkon, Minnesota, with Father Jerry Schik, OSC officiating. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Waite Park, Minnesota with Military Honors provided by the Waite Park American Legion.
