Obituary

Barbara Marie (Schroeder) Frerich, age 78, passed away on July 19th, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on August 5, 1947, in Rush City, Minnesota, to Harvey and Shirley (Schroeder) Schroeder.

Barb grew up in Hinckley, Minnesota, where she graduated from Hinckley High School in 1965. She continued her education at Bemidji State University, earning her teaching degree in 1969. Shortly after graduation, she began her 39 year teaching career in the Mora Public Schools. Although she taught first and second grade, she found her greatest joy in kindergarten, where she nurtured a love of learning in countless young children. Her passion for Christian education continued into retirement as she served as a substitute teacher at Zion Lutheran Preschool in Mora in helping young children grow in both faith and learning.

On August 8th, 1970, Barb married the love of her life, Harold Frerich. Together they shared 55 wonderful years of marriage and were blessed with one son, Andy.

Barb was gifted in many ways and enjoyed a wide variety of hobbies. She loved quilting and was active in the quilting ministry at Zion Lutheran Church in Mora. She also enjoyed woodworking, basket weaving, participating in her book club, traveling, and making bars and mints to share at family gatherings, church events, and other special occasions.

Barb was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Shirley Schroeder; her brother, Dutch Schroeder; her brother-in-law, Butch Thompson; and many beloved aunts and uncles.

She is lovingly survived by her husband, Harold Frerich; her son, Andy (Laura) Frerich; her cherished grandchildren, Harrison, Caleb, and Elise; her sisters, Sharon Thompson, Maxine (Joe) Coder; her brother, Richard (Cindy) Schroeder; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Barb's unwavering faith in Jesus Christ guided every aspect of her life. She will be remembered for her servant's heart, her gentle spirit, and the love she shared with her family, her students, and everyone blessed to know her. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Mora Dollars for Scholars, Zion Lutheran Preschool in Mora, or St. Paul's Lutheran Children's ministry in Hinckley.
