Obituary

Arnold "Arnie" Otto Eggert of Mora died on Monday, April 7, 2025 at Eastwood Senior Living Facility in Mora, MN. He was 95 years old.

Arnie was the youngest of six children born to Reinhold and Sedona (Ziemer) Eggert. He was born in Milaca, MN and lived there until serving in the Army National Guard, subsequently enlisting in the Army, serving at Camp Rucker, AL during the Korean War. He met the love of his life Unita "Nita" (Mansmith) Eggert while dancing to "Whoopee John" at a downtown Minneapolis ballroom and they were united in marriage on July 21, 1951. They raised their family in Brooklyn Center, MN and retired to their lake home in Mora. He started his career with Minnegasco before entering the service and returned to the gas company upon his completion of service. He remained at the gas company until his retirement in 1987.

He loved tending to his large garden and enjoyed all the vegetables and fruits it provided. He purchased a tractor and backhoe and would help friends and family dig basements, pull trailers away from rising waters, and any assortment of ways he could utilize his machinery. He enjoyed dancing, snowmobiling, playing cards, hunting, and fishing.

Arnie was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, all his siblings: brothers Arthur, Alvin, and Herman, sisters Erna, and Alice Runge, and several nieces and nephews.

He is survived by his four daughters: Judy (Loren) Barnick of Mora, MN, Candice Eggert of Ramsey, MN, Rebecca (Patrick) Parenty of Big Pine Key, FL, and Annette (Joseph) LaBonne of Ramsey, MN, ten grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, sister-in-law Betty Eggert, and many special nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. We would like to acknowledge and thank those who cared for Arnie during the last few years of his life, namely Janie Eggert Peterman who provided loving in-home care, Eastwood Senior Living in Mora whose kind and nurturing staff took such great care of him, and St. Croix Hospice who in his final days provided much comfort and care for him and his family.
