Obituary

Arnold "Arne" David Johnson, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully at his home in Pine City, MN, on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at the age of 78. Born in Sandstone, MN, on July 28, 1946, to Carl and Genevieve Johnson, Arnold lived a life full of adventure, love, and dedication to his family and community.

After graduating from Sandstone High School in 1964, Arne enlisted in the Army, proudly serving at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, for two years. Once discharged, he moved to Sheboygan Falls, WI, where he managed Holiday Station Stores before relocating back to Minnesota in 1970, working at Bridgeman's making ice cream until he went to North Star Steel (Cargill) where he was a shipping supervisor until his retirement. Arne and Jean were residents of Esko for 39 years.

Arne was a devoted leader in his community, serving as a Cub Scout leader and helping train other leaders. He had the distinct honor of handing diplomas to all three of his children during their graduation ceremonies as a member of the Esko School Board.

In retirement, Arne and his beloved wife, Jean, embraced a life of travel and exploration, spending 14 wonderful years in Kerrville, TX, before moving back to Minnesota in 2020 to be closer to family. Together, they cherished their time traveling in their 5th wheel, spending much of their time camping, fishing, and soaking in God's beautiful creations of nature. Arne had several past times but his favorite was walleye fishing. Fishing for other types of fish okay but walleye was the thing to catch and passed his love of fishing and camping to his children and grandchildren.

Arne is preceded in death by his parents Carl and Genevieve Johnson, nephews, Bruce Johnson, Cory Johnson, Carl Johnson, and sister-in-law, Sandra Johnson.

Arne will be deeply missed by his wife, Jean Johnson of Pine City, MN; his children, Michael (Becca) Johnson of Esko, MN; Matthew (Lisa) Johnson of Saginaw, MN; and Monica (Chris) Gorton of Circle Pines, MN; as well as his cherished grandchildren, Nicky (Lio) Gorton, Hannah "Raine" Gorton, and Tanis Gorton. He is also survived by his brothers, Willard (Mary) Johnson, Bernie (Sharri) Johnson, and Eldon Johnson, along with countless family members and friends.

In this time of loss, we remember Arne for his laughter, love, and the many wonderful memories he created with all of us.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Arne on Sunday, March 16, 2025, from 1pm to 4pm at the American Legion Post#51, located at 525 Main St. N., Pine City, MN. A private interment at Spring Park Cemetery will be held at a later date.
