Obituary

Amelia (Bontrager) Ekstrand, daughter of Moses and Mary (Lehman) Bontrager was born January 28,1931 in Rogers ND. She entered into heaven's eternal realm on April 29, 2025, in Sandstone MN at the age of 94 years.

She grew up in an Amish family and became a Christian on August 16, 1943, while setting the supper table putting the silverware in its place. She had read a gospel tract that afternoon and realized she was a sinner and could not just do good to get to heaven, then she remembered the phrase from the tract, "He (Christ) took the guilty sinners place" and trusted that Christ died for her. Then she knew that moment she was heaven bound, made fit to be in His Presence through Christ's death on the cross.

Amelia grew up on farms near Rogers ND and later Dazey ND. In 1952 she worked for the Wagar family near Inkster ND (after their mother died following surgery) caring for the children. She then worked for Blume's Bakery and later Sears in Valley City ND transferring to Sears in Waterloo IA becoming a switchboard operator working for 24 years at Sears. She lived in Cedar Falls IA for 19 years. On May 7, 1983 she married Roland Ekstrand and moved to Hinckley MN. Following Roland's death she moved to Sandstone MN. First living at the Manor, then Serenity Court and last residing at the Sandstone Health Care Center.

Amelia enjoyed being with family and friends, traveling (Northern Ireland, Israel, Canada, throughout the US), gardening, cooking, oil painting and reading scriptures.

At the time of her death she was in fellowship with Christians gathered to the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ at the Hinckley Gospel Hall in Hinckley MN.

Amelia is survived by Roland's children, son James (Avril) Ekstrand, Santa Fe NM; daughter Beverly (David) Klar, Sandstone MN; granddaughters Rachel Klar, Sandstone MN; Michelle (Ben) Scherer, Howell MI and great grandchildren Aidan, Elizabeth and Alan Scherer, Howell MI. Also surviving are two brothers, Jacob Bontrager, Owatonna MN and Reuben Bontrager, Dazey ND and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, Sarah, Simon, Anna, Edna, Frances, Mattie, Abe and granddaughter Elizabeth.
