Alfred Torbord died on June 12, 2024.  He was 100 years old.

Al was born on April 15, 1924 in Waite Park, MN. Raised in Waite Park, MN he shouldered responsibility early as the eldest of seven children, working to help support his family after completing just the eighth grade. In 1942, he was drafted into the Army at the age of 18. He was trained as a combat line medic before deploying to England in 1944. He landed in France shortly following D-Day joining General Pattons 3rd Army. He was discharged in 1945.

He worked as a welder for the U.S. Navy in Guam for 13 months following the war. On a trip back to Minnesota from Guam in 1946 he met Rita Wolf.

In 1949 work brought Al to Sterling, IL. as a welder for U.S. Steel. On January 28, 1950, Al and Rita married at St. Mary's Church in Sterling, IL.

At the end of 1950 Al moved his family back to Waite Park, MN. He worked as a Journeyman Plumber in St. Cloud, MN until 1957 then moved his family to Bloomington.

Al continued work as a plumber residing in Richfield, MN until retiring in 1987. Upon retirement they purchased a cabin on Knife Lake and a home in Mora, MN.

In Mora, Al was an active member at St. Mary's Church and community. He spent time perfecting his skills playing cards and countless hours enjoying fishing. This also included teaching his five grandchildren the techniques of fishing.

After 65 years of marriage, wife Rita passed away in July 2015. Al continued to live and fish in Mora until moving to Presbyterian Homes in Bloomington, MN.

Al enjoyed his time at the Presbyterian Home where he made many friends and acquaintances in his years there.

Al is survived and will be missed by children, Susan (Mark) Pappas, Michael (Lorie) Torborg, Nancy Sherman, Kerry (Curt) Kriens, five grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and sister, Virginia (Ginny). Al was preceded in death by wife, Rita, daughter, Patricia, parents, Edward and Rose, brothers, Eugene, Ralph, and Leonard, and sisters, Frances and Delores.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, August 3, 2024 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mora with Father Timothy Gapinski officiating.  A visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church.  Burial will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery followed by a luncheon at the church.

Military Honors are being provided by Mora American Legion Post 201.
