Beverly Jean Vink, nee Schmidt, passed from the loving arms of her husband into the presence of our Lord on Monday, February 23, 2009.

Beverly was born at the Duxbury Store in Wilma Township to Archie and Martha Schmidt on October 9, 1930. She attended a local elementary school, Collins, and divided her high school years between Sandstone H.S. and Duluth Central H.S. Beverly continued her education at UMD and St. Cloud State, earning her teaching certificate and eventually Bachelor’s Degree. She taught school in Danbury, KerrickDuxbury, Markville, Bruno & Askov for 30 years before buying and operating the Duxbury Store with her husband, Joe for the next 31 years.

Beverly and Joseph Vink were married on February 11, 1950 and within a few years settled in Duxbury where they raised four children: Teresa, Gary, Martha & Bryan.

Beverly loved people & kept a lively interest in the achievements & adventures of others. She loved wildlife and instilled an appreciation in her family for the natural world: forests, rocks, plants, animals, birds. She enjoyed hummingbirds & kept plenty of feeding stations to attract them to her windows. Beverly loved to plant flowers of all kinds, but especially appreciated wildflowers that Joe would find for her in the woods and fields. She loved to collect good books, old memorabilia & antiques, treasuring the history & stories of each item. Beverly loved music & spent many years as pianist & organist at Zion Lutheran Church in Markville, MN. She was a great cook and hostess and a generous, compassionate person as many of her family and friends know. If you needed something, she noticed and gave to the need. Beverly was always proud of her husband & family; never missing an opportunity to tell of their accomplishments. She made people feel they were special. She was a hard worker & expected the same of others. Beverly and Joe enjoyed a strong marriage and shared many interests, activities, travels & friends. Those who love her will miss her presence in every way.

Beverly is survived by her husband of 59 years, Joseph E. Vink and their children: Teri Nelson of Lk. Mills, WI; Gary Vink of Duxbury, MN; Martha (Micki) Johnson & her husband, Bruce of Aitkin, MN; Bryan Vink & his wife Sharon of The Dalles, OR; Beverly’s grandchildren: David Nelson; Derek Nelson & his wife Sherie; Danella Radke & her husband Tom; Erik Johnson & his wife Jennifer; Owen Johnson; Sveah Johnson; Bryan Vink; Daniel Vink & his wife Shawna; Laura Vink; Jason Vink; Beverly’s great-grandchildren: Hunter & Chase Radke; Logan & Riley Nelson; Tiara & Taylor Ranney; Dylan, Ashley & Luke Johnson; Gavin Vink; and Beverly’s sister, Bonita Hernandez, Palmdale, CA.
