Peggy Christie

Christie, Peggy Jane (Schoon) age 84 of Mora, MN, died on September 21, 2012 surrounded by family.

She was born August 8, 1928, in Mason City, IA, the daughter of Amy and Jerry Schoon. She graduated from Buffalo Center High School in Iowa in l945 and graduated from Carlton College in Nothfield, MN, in 1949 with a BA in Sociology. She married George West Christie on June 18, 1949, and moved to Red Lake Falls, MN, where he was co-editor with his parents of the Red Lake Falls Gazette until 1969. They moved to Mora in 1970 where they were editors and publishers of the Kanabec County Times and the Braham Journal until 1980. Peggy worked as a copy and proof reader with her sister-in-law, Lillian Johnson, for nearly 10 years. She was an active member of the Kanabec County Hospital Auxiliary for over 30 years and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Mora.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Geraldine Johnson and Lydia Kunz, and a brother, Alvin Schoon.

Peggy will be greatly missed by her husband of 63 years, George Christie of Mora, her daughter Susan (Harry) Porfilio of Westfield, WI, sons Dirk (Elena) Christie of Anchorage, AK, and Bruce (Katherine) Christie of Wasilla, AK, five grandchildren: Tressa, Sean, Jenna, Stefan, Alex, and 7 great-grandchildren: Cyric, Kelise, Soren, Javen, Kylan, Lilian, and Adeline. She is survived by other relatives and many friends.

A visitation will be held at Dresser-Methven Funeral Home in Mora, MN, from 1-3 PM on Saturday, October 6, 2012, followed by a brief memorial service at 3 PM.
